918 Photo A Day

Quick update here.  918 Photo now has a "photo a day" blog set up.  You can find a link to it up in the menu, with the address being...

http://918photo.tumblr.com/

This site remains the home for 918 Photo though, so any info you want/need, this is where you'll find it.  There has been a serious lack of action over here as of late, but not for lack of work.  A bunch of new shots will be posted shortly.

918 is thinking, thinking, about the idea of weddings for 2011.  Interested?  Get in touch, we'll see if this idea works for both of us.

Surfin' USA! (editors note: actually surfin' costa rica)

Hey hey! So as you may or may not know, I got married last month. Hooray for me! And these pictures you see here were taken on our honeymoon in Costa Rica. These eight images were handpicked by the newly minted Mrs. 918 Photo.

These were taken on the last full day down there, the only day the waves did enough to actually get out and surf on. Fortunately for me this one guy with the moustache was out surfing as we walked back to our bungalow. I got my camera, came back and shot him for about an hour.

The other guy came and surfed for about twenty minutes. He had places to be it seems. Or was creeped out by the guy standing waist deep in the surf with the zoom lens taking pictures of him surfing. Either or!

Cassie, Part 2

Ok, wrapping up Cassie's shoot today.

There are always so many pictures I want to put on here, but I end up reminding myself that I'll run the risk of overwhelming you guys with too many pictures at once.  It should be noted though, if you want to see all of my favorites from every shoot, and not just the dozen or so I'll post on here, you can find them on Facebook.

If you've yet to check out 918 Photo on Facebook, check it out.  Aside from all of my favorite shots from each shoot, you'll find info on "special offers" 918 runs from time to time.  They'll be mentioned on here as well, but the Facebook page makes it so much easier to keep track of.  So if you've yet to find us over there, get to it!

It should also be noted that legally I have to say "find us on Facebook."  Or something to that effect.  And I can't directly link.  Facebook is odd like that.  As if I may direct someone to my Facebook page, and that person would somehow not notice they were at a Facebook page.  The "www.facebook.com/..." is sort of a dead giveaway.

Cassie, Part 1

Some of you may have noticed, it's been a long time since this site has been updated.  Some of you would be right!

Over on Facebook, 918 Photo had been drawing a lot more interest, and this site suffered for it.  No more.  Two equal places to find all the 918 Photo info you want, and more!

So let's jump right back into the swing of things here.  This set was taken in late May.  Our subject is a young actress named Cassie.  Cassie shot one location, two outfits, and ended up creating some of my favorite pictures to date.

You'll notice I did a lot of extreme closeups with Cassie.  I am a huge fan of these shots and you'll see them pop up in almost every shoot of mine.  I appreciate how they cut through all the excess and beautifully display the face.  As a headshot or just a regular portrait, I'm a huge fan.

So here's a little more of Cassie's shoot for you to enjoy, after the jump.  There will be a number of shoots from the summer popping up in the coming weeks.  If you're interested in getting just about anything shot (save for weddings), let me know, 918 Photo is ready to go!

Holy Broken Interweb!

Actually, holy broken power company.  I've been losing power daily recently, and it's the sort of thing that's an annoyance at first.  Then I realize my modem needs to be refreshed from the server, and my router needs to be reset and reconfigured or neither will work together.  It is a pain.  And it is happening daily (twice yesterday).

Combine that with a quick hitting cold last week, and the 918 Photo updates have been lacking.  Right after I made the twice weekly claim no less.

Well the power is on, all network related devices are running as they should be, and I'm gonna sneak an update in while I can.  Enjoy.

So, 918 Photo is starting to get noticed, and the client count is on the rise.  Our $100 individual headshot/portrait session price is certainly helping.  We're getting lots of headshot requests, which is awesome, they're fun to shoot.  They're so similar, yet so different every time out.  If you've yet to get in on that headshot/portrait special, get in while the getting is good.  That special introductory price of ours will not last.

I've had some great shoots over the past week, which you'll be seeing in the coming days.  Some headshots, some sibling portraits, some night time experimental work.  I'm attending a wedding this weekend (as a guest, not photographer) so I'll have some wedding (guest) shots to throw up in the next couple of weeks.  Plus, it's hot, and my dog is at the beach a lot.  So, dog beach shots.  Many things I tell you!

Today I'm also excited to announce a special family portrait session.  Special you say?  Special in that we're talking...

- a 2 hour shoot
- individual shots of each family member
- group shots
- whatever other pairings you'd like (the kids together, the parents together, males/females together...)
- your location(s) of choice
- color images and black and white images
- $300

Addison, Part 2

Addison returns today, so long bees. For now...

This is a quick update today, very little to say about these that wasn't said in part 1. This shot you're looking at up top would have been my favorite shot ever had I not also managed to the get the one from part 1.

I just like every single thing about those two shots. When you think about typical headshots, they're not ideal headshots.  But they're fantastic shots nonetheless.  Personally, I think a shot like that might stand out amongst the rest in a pile of headshots. So maybe it is a great headshot. Who knows?!

The Addison shots will continue later in the week. She was a fantastic model, and there are a large number of great shots to show off. And that is that. Come back for part 3.

BEES?!

Welcome back, and thanks for coming back.  I've said it before, but "more regular" updates are coming.  Just exactly what that means, I'm not yet sure.  But at least twice a week.  Here's number two for this week, and it's a dooz(zzzzzz!)y.

So I decided to break up Addy's photo shoot with some of the nature shots I've gotten lately. Those of you looking for more headshots, they're coming. For now, bees!

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz!

BEES?! Yes, bees. Bees for Old Bear. He loves the honey!

Arrested Development, great show, or greatest show?

For those of you still on board, let's get to the bee pictures! These were taken at my parents house a couple of weekends ago. The day was winding down, the sun slowly starting to set, and this beautiful apple tree was full of bees going about their bee business. Or should I say, buzz-ness? I should not.

I stood there for probably close to an hour watching them work. As the time passed the bees thinned, closing up their business (buzz-ness? It's sticking) for the day. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to try to keep a bee in frame at full zoom on a 300mm lens. Difficult!

And We're Back!

Hey hey, bet you thought 918 Photo was dead and gone. But alas, 918 Photo returns... from beyond the grave! Or not, beacause there was no death. And I can go on and on like this...

So, you'll remember when last we talked, 918 Photo had a client. It was an exciting time for all. Unfortunately due to an amazing and unfortunate sequence of events/disasters in the client's life, the shoot was pushed back a few times. Eventually though we were able to get together and shoot this thing. Have I mentioned 918 Photo is flexible?

So over the next few posts we'll be rolling out some of the favorites from Addy's shoot. Addy (and her mom) wanted to do some headshots for her burgeoning acting career, as well as some full body shots and poses for her modeling/pagent work. This shoot went longer than a normal scheduled session would (probably twice as long), but that's what you get when you're client number one. Bonus time.

A few things I should mention about the shoot. This was shot in one location, at one time. A few different looks, a few different backgrounds, but this was all one shoot. Amazing, no? Yes! Have I mentioned 918 Photo is versatile?

This shot up at the top (and larger below) is quite possibly my favorite photo I've ever taken. In fact many in here crack my all time favorites list (of people). It was a ver productive shoot. But this one, wow. Favorite shot ever.

This shoot proved slightly difficult in the lighting. The one thing that really was an issue during the shoot. I love natural light, I'd much rather shoot outdoors than in, but the sun was in and out of the clouds all day. One or the other would be fine, but so many times the sun would pop in or out just as I was snapping off a shot, screwing up the light completely. And yet still, this shoot was a success.

Business Time

So 918 Photo has taken some time, thought about it, and decided yes.  Yes, we should probably operate as an actual business and get some clients.

So we did!  Huzzah!

Yes, the client count has moved forward to 1!  In a row!

It's an exciting day here (even if the shoot isn't for a week and a half still), one which we're really looking to build on.  One which will lead to a few more additions to the site in the coming days (payment options, an actual list of our rates, other business type things), so keep an eye out for that stuff.

So in a couple of weeks you'll all get to see some officially sanctioned 918 Photo "work."  We'll have some selections from the shoot, it'll be super official.  Woo.

For now though, more dog pictures!

FC, LSPotS (Part 2)

Now that's a post title!

So here we have the second half of the pictures I posted earlier in the week. It's mostly a return engagement for Bella. I know how you've all been asking for more dog pictures. Don't think I'm not listening, people want to see more dog photos, they get more dog photos!

I'm going to try to give a litle more background on the photos that are posted here from now on. I'm really uncertain as to what else I can talk about at the moment, while 918 Photo continues to have 0 (zero?!) clients. Even with clients, it might help potential clients to hear a little bit about the who/what/when/where of the photos. So, info!

That picture that you see at the top of the post (and larger at the bottom) has quickly become one of my favorite photos ever. This was taken mid-afternoon at the end of a very full weekend which my pup (Olive) spent running Bella into the ground. It had gotten to the point where she was no longer interested in what Olive was up to, and would just sort of sit in a spot near Olive and just watch. Sleepily.

Fingers Crossed, Last Snow Pictures Of The Season (part 1)

Ok, so here come the more regular updates. Hopefully...

So I've been talking about the weather in these posts pretty often, and that's for a few reasons. One, the weather has been odd. Two, it's that time of the year when we're stuck between seasons, and man, you HAVE to talk about the weather! Three, I am an enormous weather nerd.

So to continue the tradition, did you know there's still snow in the hills of Connecticut? Fact! Here's a little photographic evidence compiled over the past couple of weeks.

This pup is Bella. My parents dog, a puggle, a fatty. A fact (the fat part) that my parents only ever seem to notice in the pictures I take of her. So I'm taking a lot in an attempt to get them to notice she is super fat and needs to start working out. This update and the next will be full of Bella shots, so enjoy the fatness!

Aside from being so large, she's also a cuddly sweetheart, which you can see in those eyes. She always looks like she needs a hug, and boy does she love to be hugged. So it works out well for her.

Spring Fever

New client special! To remind everyone, we'll be offering our services at an extremely discounted price to our new clients for a limited time. Contact us for all the details, but now is an excellent time to try us out and see for yourself that 918 Photo takes some snazzy pictures.

So it was lovely last week. 50's, sunny, beautiful. Days later... not so much.

But I'm here today with some great shots from this past summer to help ease the pain. Or make it worse. I'm not sure which we're accomplishing, but I am (almost) certain... something is being accomplished. Probably.

Olympic Fever!

An appropriate update at this moment would be something sports related. Winter sports even. So here are some more summer wedding photos!

This is the second (and final) set of photos from this wedding.  Enjoy the loveliness.

You may notice a few changes here and there to the site over the coming weeks. I'm still fine tuning it, but overall I think we're looking pretty good. You should have access to everything you'll need to get in touch with us, but if you happen to be looking for something you can't find, let us know, we'll help you get what you need.

Snow bored

Did I mention the puns? Cause we've got puns.

Fun Fact: 93% of the potential names for the company were puns.

So the snow came late, but it came. So I figure it's appropriate to throw up some pictures from a summer wedding. It should be noted, 918 Photo was not the official photographer of this wedding. It was attended by the 918 family, pictures were taken, but these aren't exactly full access shots. Still, pretty lovely, no?

I'm actually gonna split this post up, four more wedding photos to follow in the next day or so.

We're currently in the process of backing up ALL of our photos online. Unfortunately, that is taking place on a computer that is a hundred miles away right now, on what can only be called a "borderline broadband" connection at the moment. The connection will become actual broadband this weekend (from 5MB to 20MB), and fingers crossed we move all our stuff online. Once that happens, updates will likely come more frequently.

Fenway Park pics, not making the cold any easier

The 918 Photo blog continues! And they said we wouldn't last.

As we progress here, the site will start to see regular updates, likely two to three updates a week. We'll be documenting older photos as well as the new stuff. The site itself will see some tweaks until it looks good enough.

Being a new company, we'll be posting all our successes and all our failures as we work to get this thing up off the ground. Our first count...
